Bright Futures Knox County held their 2nd annual Kids Fishing Day on May 14th, 2022 at the Edina City Lake just north of town on Highway 15. The weather as near perfect with clear skies and sunshine all around and warm temperatures. Breakfast was offered for all participants consisting of Pop Tarts, Gatorade, and water. There were 69 kids signed in for this event. The fishing proved to good for the kids as there were a total of 377 fish turned in to be scored. Most of the fish were returned to the water unharmed. Species caught were cat fish, large mouth bass, green eared sunfish and crappie. The largest fish was a catfish that weighed in at 5.41 pounds and measured 24.5 inches in length. The smallest fish caught was a very small large mouth bass measuring only 5.375 inches. The most fish caught by one person was 46 fish.
We had volunteers from MDC, Harrison Fish Farm, Knox County Health Department, Knox County Ambulance District, Knox County Rescue Squad, and Bright Futures Knox County. One of the BFKC volunteers is a life member of the Missouri Hunter Education Instructor’s Association. Lunch was served by the Knox County Health Department. A very good time was had by ALL!
